General Information

Bioengineering is an interdisciplinary field based on physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, molecular biology, cell metabolism, basic engineering and material sciences that applies engineering principles to biological systems for the purpose of developing new technologies (Biotechnologies) and services to improve the living standards of societies. The Bioengineering programme at Ege University, offers a variety of complementary courses to students and aims to produce specialized personnel possessing skills sought by bioindustries.

Utilising this nucleus of expertise, Ege University, Department of Bioengineering was established in 2000 as the first and only Bioengineering Department in Turkey (EGEBIO). It has grown extensively since then.

Currently the Department has a total of 28 academic  staff (10 professors, 4 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 4 post-doctoral researchers,  7 research assistants, ) and there are 217 undergraduate students.  It encompasses the following main fields of Bioengineering: Bioprocess Engineering; Genetic Engineering and Biomedical Engineering;
